VikingGenetics asked for the next chapter of their breeding tools: One experience that supports all future processes—including beef and embryo—lifts service quality and frees specialists to focus on high-value work. Mtech Digital Solutions leveraged their extensive experience to turn VikingGenetics’ goals into robust software solutions—while clearly and effectively visualizing the company’s ideas.
What we built—and why
We approached VikingSelect as a purposeful evolution, not a blank slate. First, we strengthened the data layer—expanding and tuning the VikingBull and Animal databases and reworking imports—so performance and data quality rise together. Then we redesigned the browser UI around how people actually move through their day: shorter high-traffic flows, clearer heavy screens, and hand-offs that keep context intact.

Sanna Kosonen’s day captures the intent: batch actions for group changes, focused animal cards for decisions, and multi-tab support for parallel tasks. As adoption grew, feedback shifted from “it works” to faster, easier, fewer back-and-forths—and more work handled in-app instead of “off system.”
Extending to the field: MyVikingSelect
While VikingSelect elevates specialist workflows at the desk, MyVikingSelect carries the same clarity to farmers and advisors. We workshopped the mobile flows with field experts, then simplified to what matters on-site: quick animal lookups, on-the-spot actions, and guided steps that reduce after-the-fact admin.
Advisors highlight new visibility into time-sensitive steps:

How we worked
The program ran over a year in Agile cycles with a small senior Mtech team embedded alongside VikingGenetics’ product owners and subject-matter experts. In close collaboration with VikingGenetic Project Manager Henrik Rokkjær, Mtech secured a flexible approach and regularly brought evidence-based options when “what was asked” wasn’t quite “what was needed.” That loop—design → build → validate—kept the focus on outcomes, not just features.
What changed for VikingGenetics
• Less manual work, fewer errors. Routine steps are automated; specialists spend more time on expert tasks.
• Broader process coverage. Beef and embryo programs—including animal logistics—are first-class citizens.
• Cleaner collaboration and service. More of the end-to-end workflow lives in one place—traceable, repeatable—supporting breeders, advisors, veterinarians, and drivers.
• Mobile flexibility. Easy and accessible admission to farm and animal information, and that way having a better overview of the specific herd(s).

Where this lands
VikingSelect is phasing in as the primary interface, replacing the current VikingBull UI with a clear migration path. MyVikingSelect complements it in the field. Together, they deliver the practical gains VikingGenetics targeted from the start: speed where it matters, clarity in the busiest screens, and fewer steps between decision and action.
Mtech’s takeaway: When we combine deep domain context with the courage to challenge technical solutions and secure simplicity, modernization isn’t just new code—it shows up on the clock, in the field, and in the bottom line. VikingGenetics defined the direction; and together we turned those goals into dependable software and refined the path wherever a better outcome was possible.
